Program Components
Group Counseling is a combination of education and process.
Education focuses on the effects of drugs and alcohol and their impact on people’s lives and on the community. Group members learn about coping and relapse prevention strategies, independent living skills, communication, stress, anger management and parenting, among other topics.
Group process focuses on peer support as participants explore their strengths, hopes and fears, frustrations and needs. Group members are encouraged to discuss relationships, trauma, drug use histories, stressors, triggers and coping mechanisms. Group members act as witnesses to each other’s challenges and support each other’s growth in a safe environment.
Individual counseling supplements group treatment or may be on its own. Therapists invite clients to explore issues surrounding substance abuse on a deeper level including trauma, abuse patterns, and family history.
Intensive Treatment provides increased structure and multifaceted treatment tailored to the unique needs of each participant. A team approach creates more opportunities for healthy choices, early intervention around relapse, and topic specific groups aimed at increasing the potential for recovery.
Community support activities such as 12-step meetings and other volunteer opportunities are strongly encouraged as a part of the treatment process.
Family members are an important part of treatment. Research shows that the entire family is affected by substance use, and their participation in the program increases the likelihood of a positive outcome. We focus on helping families heal and overcome the devastating effects of alcohol and drug use.
Co-occurring treatment refers to people dealing with substance abuse and other mental health challenges such as depression, trauma, or anxiety. Pyramid is committed to coordinating care to meet the unique needs of each individual.
Chemical Testing is a generally accepted best practice for treatment programs committed to helping people recover from drugs and alcohol. Pyramid tests participants regularly to support recovery and accountability.
