POSITIONS:   Counselor

DESCRIPTION: With an emphasis on prevention, Marriage and Family Counselor will work with individuals, couples, families, and groups to promote optimum mental health and well-being. Specifically, the Marriage and Family Counselor will work with victims/survivors and perpetrators of domestic violence, and provide counseling on family issues involving parenting and marital stress; emotional and behavioral issues of children at home and at school; and interpersonal and intrapersonal relationship difficulties confronting individuals, couples, families, and children, such as stress management, self-esteem, and aging-related issues.  Principal duties will include the following, as well: to plan and conduct a safety plan for clients in danger/crisis and develop and implement treatment plans for each case; to assess and diagnose clients’ mental difficulties, monitor clients’ use of medications; and, whenever appropriate, to collaborate with families, probation officers, police, and other professionals in order to serve clients more effectively and collect relevant information during the treatment process. Counselor will be held responsible for maintaining legal and ethical therapeutic relationships with clients, including maintaining confidentiality and all records and reports; assuring a welcoming and culturally-appropriate counseling and education environment; establishing appropriate limits to ensure safety for client and staff; returning phone calls within 24 hours; attending mandatory staff meetings and retreats; and participating in continuing education and training offered by Pyramid Alternatives.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

 Masters Degree in Counseling
